Dance

Commitment to excellence in the practice of dance. Develop artistic concepts and  your critical thinking skills to become disciplined, creative, and versatile dance artists. The AMPA BDance is Sydney’s only performance-focused dance degree.

Overview

The Bachelor of Dance Course (and nested Associate Degree) has a strong focus on and commitment to excellence in the practice of dance. This unique program develops highly skilled, disciplined, creative, and versatile dance artists who have the ability to be employed or pursue further study in a variety of fields. Performance and technical training takes place in professional studios with three major showcases held each year.

The BDance Advantage

A bachelor degree provides dance artists with a path towards career longevity in a variety of fields with significant career benefits over the traditional studio or pre-professional training path. While high-level technique and performance training is at the core of the program, students are expected to form artistic concepts and choreographic works, employ management and critical thinking skills and develop an understanding in music production, lighting techniques, performance psychology and body science units.

Projected graduate career opportunities include: Dance/Performing Artist; Choreographer; Director; Production Manager; Secondary/Primary Teacher (with postgraduate study); Studio Manager/Teacher; Event Manager, Arts Administrator; and executive positions in the creative industries. Given the transferability of dance knowledge and skills, other career opportunities may include a range of inter-disciplinary roles.

AMPA graduates have been working with national and international companies such as Opera Australia, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Disney, Shaun Parker & Co, The Israeli Opera, Bat-Sheva Dance Co., Meryl Tankard, Catapult Dance Choreographic Hub, AUSTI Dance & Physical Theatre, and in musicals such as Madiba, 9 to 5, Chorus Line and more. Many graduates also progress into teaching positions at independent and government schools across Australia, enabling the flexibility of pursuing creative projects while building a career in education.
